GlycoMimetics is Proud to Recognize Rare Disease Day USA — On February 29, 2012, the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) is sponsoring a grassroots day of international advocacy to raise awareness about the global health challenge presented by rare diseases. Held annually on the last day of February, Rare Disease Day has been recognized in over 60 countries around the world since 2008, when it was first observed in Europe by the European Rare Disease Organization (EURORDIS). Since May of 2009, NORD and EURORDIS have collaborated in a strategic partnership to achieve greater awareness and patient advocacy, as well as amplified influence in international public policy.

The official slogan of this year’s Rare Disease Day is "Rare but Strong Together," emphasizing the theme of solidarity among the patients, professionals, and family members involved in combating rare diseases. As a company developing small molecule drugs targeting areas of unmet clinical needs with a focus on rare diseases, GlycoMimetics is proud to support Rare Disease Day. GlycoMimetics is a member of the NORD Corporate Council and is pleased to share information about the company’s current clinical program for patients with Vaso-occlusive Crisis of Sickle Cell Disease via the NORD website.
