GlycoMimetics Announces Key Appointments to Board of Directors
Top and Baldwin to bring critical pharmaceutical industry expertise

Rockville, Maryland - September 17, 2003 - GlycoMimetics, Inc. (GMI) today announced the appointment of Franklin H. Top, Jr., M.D. and John J. Baldwin, Ph.D. to its Board of Directors. Dr. Top currently is Medical Director of MedImmune, Inc., and is a former Director of Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. Dr. Baldwin is a Co-Founder, President, and Chief Scientific Officer of Concurrent Pharmaceuticals, a co-founder of Pharmacopeia, Inc., and a thirty-three year veteran of Merck & Co.

Dr. Baldwin co-founded Concurrent Pharmaceuticals in May 2001. Prior to that, he spent nine years at Pharmacopeia, Inc., where he was a co-founder and served as Chief Scientific and Technology Officer. Prior to Pharmacopeia, Dr. Baldwin was a Distinguished Senior Scientist at Merck & Co., where he spent 33 years in various scientific and management positions. Dr. Baldwin received his B.S. in chemistry from the University of Delaware and his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Top joined MedImmune in June 1988 as Executive Vice President, was elected to its Board of Directors in July 1988 and became the company's Medical Director in June 1990. From 1987 to 1988, Dr. Top served as Senior Vice President for Clinical and Regulatory Affairs at Praxis Biologics. Prior to 1987, Dr. Top served for 22 years in the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command, where he was appointed Director, Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in 1983. Dr. Top holds a Doctorate of Medicine cum laude and a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry from Yale University.
